Colchester 1-4 Port Vale, 2004. A shock win away at Layer Road as after Scott McLeish gave the home side a lead on ten minutes, Steve Brooker (13), a Wayne Brown own-goal (24) and Micky Cummins (27) put Vale three-one up within a half-hour. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson put the seal on the win with a 73rd minute fourth.

Worst defeat

Colchester 4-1 Port Vale 2003. The previous year Colchester put four past Vale with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson netting a consolation.

Notable others

  • Sandwiched in between those games was a 4-3 thriller in 2003 with Steve McPhee netting Vale’s winner.
  • There was another thriller in 1985 as Vale won 3-2 at Vale Park.
