Swindon 3-2 Vale fans reaction: please get us a decent keeper from somewhere…

Port Vale supporters say poor transfer business in the January transfer window could cost the club dear…

Match summary

Vale are still winless in 2018 after Swindon secured a late winner to defeat the Valiants 3-2 on Saturday. Vale’s scorers were Michael Tonge and Cristian Montano but a defensive mistake and a Ryan Boot error allowed the home side to level before Paul Mullin hit a late winner.

Players and management

“It was bad defending for their first goal and a mistake for the second one, but the third was very unfortunate and there’s not a lot you can do about that. We need to cut out those individual errors to give ourselves any chance, but I saw enough fight and determination to give me hope that we are going to get a result to turn things around…”

Vale manager Neil Aspin

“Port Vale came here fighting, they put their bodies on the line and they’ve got some real strong characters and leaders. They hate getting beat so it was going to be a difficult afternoon, we knew that, but the three points is massive. The players here are fighting tooth and nail for the football club and they are giving it everything they’ve go…”

Swindon manager David Flitcroft

“I thought as a team we’ve done well. I think we deserved more than what we got in the end. Football is football. You’ve got to grind, you’ve got to work, and keep working until the last kick of the game. It’s heart-breaking to concede the last goal the way we did…”

Port Vale goalscorer Cristian Montano

“I went on to try and make a difference, score a goal and make us more attacking… Thankfully it has gone in. We’ve had a lot of games in a short period of time and all tough games against teams in and around us, so you could tell on Saturday that it was a little bit sluggish…”

Views from the OVF forum

“We didn’t play bad today but I knew we weren’t going get anything out of it. It just had that feel watching it. MUCH better than last weeks shellacking and what I saw was we won’t go down even with the personnel we’ve got…”

Clinton Boulton

“You have to give Aspin a full season before properly judging him. It sounds like his changes helped to improve us today…”

“It’s bad at the minute but lets not forget we had five points after eleven games and hadn’t won since the first game with the worst squad I’ve seen in my lifetime when Aspin took over. Give a few months into the next season when he’s had a chance to build his own squad, before we can really tell what he’s about…”

Regal Beagle

“To be fair, I think the battling spirit was back today and I do believe we deserved a draw, as Swindon were poor! But when you make mistakes like Boot did, you can’t expect to win games. Simple as…”

Danish Valiant

“Frustrating – our inability to close a game down when a point is available continues to bite us in the bum. If there is a league table for teams who concede late, we must surely be top of it!”

“Aspo and Rudgie, please get us a decent goalkeeper from somewhere, anywhere…”

For Us All

“How many times will we regret not signing a Keeper and a left-back? Thanks Norm this could cost us dear…”

Tommy Tunstall

“I feel for Aspin in terms of the keepers he has inherited. Whoever he chooses doesn’t inspire confidence, and costs us points. Can we go out and get a safe pair of hands/feet? Without the Boot error, we would be coming home with a point feeling the rot had been checked…”

“Sign Stuart Nelson now and kick out the other goalies!”

“Yet again we give cheap goals away and make it easy for the opposition. At least we showed some fight this week. Only positive is that the gap is still at seven and another game is chalked off…”

“I’d say its still vital that we try to get another keeper in as the main two we’ve had this season have been abysmal…”

The Kalamazoo Kid

“We can’t get points on the board when we don’t have a half-decent goalie between the sticks…”

“We haven’t had a decent goalkeeper for 12 months thats why we got relegated last season…”

“How many goalkeeping errors is that now this season? If we even had a half-decent keeper we’d have another 10-15 points this season I’m sure of it…”
