Forest Green say signings are on the way as Gunning is linked with League Two rivals
Defender Gavin Gunning could line-up against his former club if Forest Green complete a deal for the Irish defender.
Gunning left Vale at the end of 2017 after failing to agree terms on a contract extension. He made 27 appearances and scored one goal during the first-half of the season.
Vale manager Neil Aspin was keen to keep the left-sided defender but the two sides were unable to reach agreement.
Gunning has been linked with Vale’s next opponents, Forest Green, and the Gloucestershire club have announced that they could have as many as four new signings before the game against the Valiants.
Forest Green have already brought in two players and owner Dale Vince told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: “I think, by Saturday, we’ll have half a dozen fresh faces at the club and hopefully that’ll be enough. We have to be optimistic. We get the chance to bring some fresh players in and pull ourselves out of the drop zone.”
