Derby defeat Port Vale in first home friendly game
Port Vale suffered a narrow loss to Championship side Derby County on Tuesday night.
The Valiants named new loan signing Marcus Harness in their starting line-up but fellow loanee Rekeil Pyke was named as a sub as Dan Turner started upfront.
Derby named a strong side with Tom Huddlestone, Darren Bent, Curtis Davies, Andre Wisdom and Chris Baird all starting.
The visitors had chances for Russell and Bryson in the first-half but it was Vale veteran Michael Tonge who had the best chance of the opening 45 as his effort forced Scott Carson to tip the ball over.
However, in the second period, Derby’s Russell was brought down in the corner of the box by Neil Eardley and Darren Bent made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
Vale made a host of changes and sub Rekeil Pyke had a chance which he failed to convert as it finished in a narrow win for the visitors.
