Peterborough Utd 2-2 Port Vale: Alex Jones scored a double including a late penalty as Vale took a point away from Peterborough on Saturday afternoon.
Port Vale manager Bruno Ribeiro brought back fit again midfield duo Anthony Grant and Paulo Tavares while striker Martin Paterson started in place of the injured Anton Forrester.
Peterborough started better but it was visitors Port Vale who took an early lead through an excellent finish from Alex Jones. However, the lead lasted just minutes as the home side equalised quickly through Moncur.
Both defences were under pressure in the early stages with Posh having the better chances, but Jones had the ball in the net for a second time only to be flagged offside.
Vale put on a better performance in the second-half but it was the home side who missed a number of clear chances to take the lead – striking the bar, forcing Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick into a fine save and missing another clear opportunity.
Despite those clear-cut chances, Port Vale were still impressing with winger Jerome Thomas prominent. Sub Rigino Cicilia had a late chance but it was Moncur who finally took one of Peterborough’s numerous chances to put the home side in front with seven minutes remaining.
However, Posh were to rue not taking another of their chances when in the 95th minute, the ever-impressive central defender Nathan Smith had a chance cleared off the line in the dying minutes and the referee awarded a penalty. Alex Jones stepped up to take it and scored to earn Port Vale a point.
