Match Report: Chesterfield 4-2 Port Vale
JJ Hooper scored his third goal for Vale but it was not enough as they came out on the wrong end of a six goal thriller against Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon.
Rob Page made three changes with Remie Streete, Byron Moore and Sam Kelly coming into the starting eleven. After 38 minutes, AJ Leitch-Smith scored to put Vale ahead but the home side equalised just after the break through Jamal Campbell-Rice.
Chesterfield looked to have completely turned the game around when Sam Hird headed home on the hour mark but that wasn’t the end of the scoring.
Vale brought on JJ Hooper for goalscorer Leitch-Smith and it was Hooper who equalised from Louis Dodds’ pass on 70 minutes.
And that wasn’t the end of the scoring as Chesterfield’s sub Gboly Ariyibi made it 3-2 to the home side just three minutes later. To rub salt into Vale’s wounds, former Valiant loanee Jay O’Shea made it four to the home side with seven minutes late.
It was a result that makes any chance of a play-off push even more unlikely for the Valiants and a disappointing result against a side struggling at the wrong end of the table.
