Colchester fan: If we don’t finish bottom it will be a miracle
We chat to a gloomy Colchester United supporter ahead of their clash with Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.
REP was talking to Leadbelly from the U’suals website.
About the fan…
“I’ll come clean and admit that Colchester is my second team, with my first love being Leeds United. I started watching the U’s the season after we returned from the Conference. I’ve been a season ticket holder for around 20 years…”
How are Colchester doing?
I’m not sure we could do much worse in terms of results and league position. Records have been broken and more may follow. It’s safe to say pre-season expectations have not been met.
Where do you think you’ll finish?
If we don’t finish bottom it will be a miracle.
Who should we watch out for?
It’s difficult to pick a danger man at the moment. Macauley Bonne works very hard and has potential but doesn’t start regularly, which is a pity. Oduwa, who is on loan from Spurs, may be dangerous but we’ve only seen a brief appearance as a sub so I’m not sure yet.
What are your thoughts on your manager?
Kevin Keen’s first game was at home on Boxing Day and he still hasn’t overseen a league win . The jury is still out for me.
What are your thoughts on your board?
Apart from the chairman, Robbie Cowling, I don’t know anyone on the board. I’m not sure they would have much of a say anyway. I don’t get involved in anything beyond first team games due to work commitments even though the club seems to be involved in a lot of community work.
Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season?
I did see the game in October. It was our last league win and now seems a very long time ago. Nothing really stands out… other than we won!
A score prediction?
As our goal difference is appalling we could do with winning by at least forty clear goals. Realistically, we just need a win so I’ll say Port Vale 1 U’s 2 with the Colchester goals from Porter (he owes us for the sitter he missed on Saturday) and Bonne (if he plays).
