Smurthwaite: Vale WON’T sign Evans
Port Vale chairman denies reports in a national newspaper that Port Vale are set to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans.
Reports circulated on Sunday that an unnamed League One club were set to sign Evans on Monday. Several newspapers mentioned Oldham as the club involved, but one newspaper, the Daily Star, stated it was Port Vale.
However, BBC Radio Stoke’s Lee Blakeman has tweeted that owner Norman Smurthwaite has said that Vale will not be signing the former Sheff Utd striker:
OVF believes that the Star has seen quotes from manager Rob Page mentioning a press conference and “good news” on Monday but many Vale fans will be aware that in fact, the press conference is widely expected to be the announcement of the signing of loanee Freddie Veseli.
Now Smurthwaite has moved to confirm that Evans will not be joining Vale – an announcement that is welcomed by the OVF website.
