Vale’s ladies team top the league
Hamil Road Ladies have made a promising start to their debut season in the Staffordshire County Women’s League after picking up four points from their opening two fixtures.
We’ve got a great team spirit and we have a very talented group of players who have a lot of potential…
The team, who were only formed in July, currently sit top of the league following their 4-2 victory over Newcastle LFC at the weekend and manager Martyn Cooke is full of praise for his players.
“We have made a bright start and I’m delighted with how the players have started the season. The girls have shown great character and quality during the first two games and it looks really promising for the season ahead. But we aren’t getting too carried away, there’s a long way to go yet!”
The team kicked off their season with a trip to Stafford Town where Hamil Road were unfortunate to come away with only a point. Charlotte Costello had given Hamil Road the lead in the first half but the team conceded an equaliser in the final moments.
Hamil Road followed up their draw on the opening day with an impressive 4-2 victory against Newcastle LFC on Sunday. Striker Kim Trotter scored twice whilst Rehanne Mellor and Lucy Hulme also got on the score-sheet to give the team their first competitive victory and Cooke says that he has been impressed with the team’s start.
“We’ve managed to get two positive results against two very good sides but we’ve also played some great football along the way. I think that we’ve got a great group of players here and the girls have been absolutely fantastic since day one. We’ve got a great team spirit and we have a very talented group of players who have a lot of potential.
Hopefully we can build on the good start that we’ve made and keep picking up positive results and keep playing the great football that we’ve been doing.”
