Micky Adams has praised the contribution of centre-half Clayton McDonald but has told the official Port Vale website that he can still “improve.”
Adams told the official website: “In many respects Clayton has been lucky to get his chance because at the beginning of the season I had Davis Artell there and I felt that David Artell and John McCombe were going to be a decent partnership.
“Gareth Owen got injured, young Joe Davis came in and had a bit of a sticky patch, which youngsters can have, and Clayton was down the pecking order, but he has come in and done reasonably well, but I feel there are certain aspects of his game he can improve on.
“I certainly want to see his fitness levels improve further and I think he can do something with his weight as well. He has done okay but there are still things there to be thinking about.
