Ryan Burge player profile:
Ryan Burge was a cultured midfielder who was signed by Port Vale from the Glenn Hoddle Academy. He made his debut against Huddersfield in the Carling Cup but injury restricted him to just one more appearance and he was transfer-listed at the end of his first season.
He bounced back to become a first-team regular the following campaign but fell out in spectacular fashion following some controversial tweets which led to him being suspended and eventually leaving the club.
Since his release, Burge has continued to protest his innocence and has claimed that manager Micky Adams had a personal grudge against him. Adams did not respond to the allegations.
The controversial Ryan Burge Port Vale exit
March 2013: The midfielder is dropped from the Vale squad to face Bristol Rovers and controversially tweets his dissatisfaction with it. Manager Micky Adams offers an alternative version saying Burge failed to show for a team meal. The matter prompts chairman Paul Wildes to speak to the media. Wildes says Burge still has a future at the club. The midfielder backs down via social media posts but the club say the apology came too late and suspend him for 14 days.
April 2013: The club then announce the midfielder has left by mutual consent.
