The veteran defender Bob Hazell joined Port Vale on a free transfer in 1986 and stayed for three years making exactly one hundred appearances before his career was ended through injury. He formed a successful partnership with fellow centre-half Phil Sproson.
Renowned for his no-nonsense approach, Hazell featured in Port Vale’s famous 1988 FA Cup run and he also helped steer the side to promotion in 1989 so although he sadly missed the final run-in through injury.
