I said in another thread how i would love to see us bring in a striker like Michael Smith/Lee Gregory(obviously the wages would need to be decent) but an experienced striker like either of those would score at League 2 level.... like Matt Smith did/does at Salford

Pie in the sky i know but we will see soon enough i guess

    Which would have cost less:

Signing someone like Johnson Clarke Harris in a bid to retain league 1 status.

Signing nobody, sacking and paying off Crosby & Dunn, and bringing in Moore & his 4 assistants, with relegation a very distinct possibility, with the catastrophic financial implications that relegation brings.

Sometimes, we have to accept that progress costs money. If someone tells you there’s a better way, they are bullshitting.

I hear you, but all fans are equal as far as I’m concerned. It’s a very risky strategy for the club to share sensitive info with certain fans – those fans could easily let that info slip, accidentally or otherwise.

I’m firmly of the belief that the club should either tell everybody or tell nobody.

I’m also of the belief that you shouldn’t make statements without backing them up with facts. Telling people they’re wrong and then basically saying “that’s for me to know and you to find out” gets us no closer to the truth, and verges on playground behaviour.

Unfortunately, it simply doesn’t work like that.

When Norman was in control, myself and Mark Porter approached Carol at the time when she had failed to publicly buy the club from Norman and had therefore withdrawn her interest from buying the club. I’ll reveal no more than that, other than to say we built up a dialogue based on trust. Months later, Carol buys the club.

Latterly, that same group of people had grave concerns for the club’s future and approached the club with their concerns. That former trust led to some forthright discussions. The intention was to minute everything and release all to the fans. However, a very large chunk of information was incredibly sensitive and private, which provided background to explanations behind certain decisions, and was therefore simply not sensible to publicly reveal, so we respected the wish to not minute the information.

We could have destroyed that trust and revealed lots of sensitive information, or we could have just walked out due to us not being allowed to relay much back to the fanbase, but either of those scenarios would not have facilitated the discussions that we had that, for one led to the dismissal of Flitcroft, and secondly will now lead to greater fan engagement with the club going forward.

I’m entitled, as a fan, to counter someone stating something as fact, when I believe it not to be a fact. Unfortunately, if I’m told something in confidence then that confidence will remain, because I uphold integrity. However, I do agree with some of your points, and this will be my fear with how the club get it right in relation to fan engagement. Having been involved with fans’ groups for over 20 years, off and on, I’ve seen no shortage of people get involved for the wrong reasons. And worse than that, a very large percentage can’t resist temptation to sound off to folk.  It’s a tough balance, hinging on blind faith.

  3. Yes, The SC has a committee of around 12.

Back under V2001, we had a ‘sub board’ exactly like that described in that article. It consisted of a couple of original V2001 steering group members, 2 SC reps, a couple of VaST reps (I was one), a couple from the ex-players association and a couple of others. It later morphed into the Port Vale Volunteers’ Group, and I was secretary for several years.

It had some relative success actually, not least because it brought together fans’ groups that, at that time, had some awful relations with each other. The politics back in those days were horrendous.

Now, we only have the Supporters’ Club, that recently became a trust, then North London Valiants and Super Vale Abroad, that both have links with the SC. Thankfully there are no warring factions anymore amongst fans’ groups.

Just to bring you up to speed on Wanderers, we should be pretty much at full strength after resting a few with knocks against Shrewsbury. For whatever reason that led to a dreadful performance but not just by the players who came in, the whole team just flopped and in the end we were lucky to get a point. Santos is the only doubt and if he’s still missing I suspect you’ll get a chance to see Will Forrester again who apart from Tuesday has been tremendous. I’m really surprised and disappointed that Vale are where they are I expected much better from you but obviously things haven’t turned out well and sadly since Saturday is a major must win game for us I’d be surprised if we don’t really go for it, including goals to have even a chance of overtaking Derby. Still you never know footballs a funny game but whatever happens I wish you well next season wherever you are. If it is L2 I think after a clear out and recruitment summer DM should have a much better chance of turning you around.

    Yay!

The higher up the league pyramid we are, the better it will be for the Burslem “community”. Bigger teams need more employees - match day and full time.

Higher attendances means more customers for pubs/takeways/corner shops on a match day. I remember reading an article on the negative effect West Ham leaving Upton Park had on those sorts of businesses in the area.

Think of it that way Carol.

Indeed.  Bob in the Bull's Head had a right cob on with me when we were boycotting Vale during the V2001 era.  Burslem was dead.

    Think that's  bit pathetic Stamford.

When we have an owner who, for the very first time in my memory (1957 started watching) who has actually invested in the club rather than shafting it that is poor mate.

£11,000,000 is it at the last count?

If it was me and you were a typical fan I would just say 'uk you'.

Are you going to fill the gap?

The Shanahan's (particularly Carol) deserve our support at the minute IMHO

Dave, at what point will you begin to question the sustainability of these losses?  I'm certainly not lauding how much they are putting it, I'm bloody terrified.

Fair play to you lads watching Cheltenham v Carlisle instead of Real Madrid v Man City 🤣

I've signed up to their Ifollow to watch it!  Carlisle look threatening.  Going ok! Sorry Dazzler but we need this.  League 1 next season looks to be brilliant!

Yes that is a fair point.  However, in theory they were all good signings. Rocastle had a good pedigree and reputation, as did Edwards.  Tudor had ripped us apart at Orient and Miller also had a good pedigree.  None of them worked out agreed, but at the time they were signed we were all pretty content.  Perhaps they did not work out so well because Martin was not the ideal manager to get the best out of them.

We need to look at all of the Tinman's signings.  Other signings for us that were not so bad, Dean Smith, Nathan Lowndes, Robin Hulbert. Mark MacGregor,

Signings who were more than ok, Marc Richards, Leon Constantine, Akpo Sodje, Luke Rodgers, Danny Whittaker, Danny Sonner, Tony Dinning, Paul Harsley..  Any of those strikers or midfielders would walk into our team right now.  All of that lot cost us in the order of £50,000 in total.

To sum up someone's success at recruitment you need to look at the big picture not just one small period in the calendar.  The great John Rudge signed some awful players, signings is a percentage game.  Overall, Martin Foyle's record is decent.

So with respect, I was around in 2007, and have been around watching Vale for over 60 years and my memory is pretty damn good.

Jesus - I'd long resigned David Rocastle to the Alzheimer's part of my brain.  Thanks for dredging that one back!  Like a helicopter missing its tail rotor.

I know the anti-christ has just departed, but TBH I'm still smarting (probably more so now) from Auntie Carols you lot of naughty boys open letter - just saying 😢😢😢

I genuinely hope that she apologises for that.  It was utterly ludicrous to publish.
