What sort of team will John Askey’s injury-hit Valiants pick to play Macclesfield Town in their Football League Trophy clash?
Team news
It will be interesting to see what line-up the Valiants field on Tuesday night. Vale are allowed to make some changes to the line-up which played the League game against Mansfield but a lengthy injury-list will prevent the club making too many. Manager John Askey has said that a Monday rollcall will determine who is fit to play. One player who could face his former club is Ryan Lloyd, who came on as a substitute for Cristian Montano on Saturday.
Stats
Somewhat surprisingly, it is full-back Adam Yates (right) who was the last competitive Port Vale scorer against Macc. That strike came in a 1-0 win back in 2012 and since then there have been two further meetings with a loss and a draw for the Valiants. Can they make it a win on Tuesday?
The overall record between the two sides is six Port Vale wins, two draws and five Macclesfield wins.
Connections
Where to begin with this? There are a whole host of players to appear for both clubs including defender Kieran Kennedy (pictured right).
There are so many in fact that we’ll point you in the direction of our dedicated “Connections” feature which is right here.
Pre-match quote
We’ll have to have a look at the squad on Monday… we have got one or two coming back now, we’ll just have to see how the walking wounded are, and go from there on Monday…

Memory match
On Saturday 10th January 1988, arguably the most important game in John Rudge’s reign ended in a narrow 1-0 win. That match was the FA Cup tie against Macclesfield Town. Rudge was under huge pressure after a string of poor results and defender Phil Sproson later told the press he had been approached to be caretaker manager if Vale lost the match. However, Kevin Finney (right) scored a late winner, Vale were drawn against Spurs in the next round and the rest is history…
