Brandon Cover has been in excellent form during his loan spell at Vale Park and his family were in the stands to see the youngster score his first goal in senior football.
Cover was a largely unheralded deadline day signing from Leicester City but the 21 year-old Jamaican International has been a big success and has arguably made the right wingback slot his own.
He’s a very humble young man. I don’t think Brandon or my family will be able to thank Port Vale enough for giving him this chance…
– Brandon Cover’s uncle Aaron
Vale struggled with the wingback positions last season and when Mitch Clark suffered an injury this summer, there were concerns over how Vale would cope. However, the Leicester loanee has come in and done an excellent job overall, making five League Two starts so far.
Cover was in excellent form on Saturday and had the added bonus of his family being in attendance. His uncle, Aaron, took to the OVF forum to express the family’s pride in the performance and later spoke to OVF about the experience.
Aaron told us: “My mother and my brother attended Vale Park on Saturday to support Brandon and had a fantastic time.”
The family were naturally delighted to see the youngster net the key second goal in Vale’s 2-1 win adding: “My Mum was overjoyed and my brother Darren was speechless.”
They also managed to catch up with the player who is clearly enjoying his stay in Burslem. Aaron added: “Brandon is enjoying his football at Port Vale. We are glad he is settling in but the Vale fans have been amazing. I had a short chat with him and my mum on the phone and congratulated him on his goal. He’s a very humble young man. I don’t think Brandon or my family will be able to thank Port Vale enough for giving him this chance.”

Vale fans are also delighted with the youngster’s contribution this season and will be hoping to see him on the scoresheet again this season.

Brilliant piece of writing Rob. All the family are very proud of Brandon. But also really can’t thank Port vale and their fans enough. Looking forward to seeing a few games. It’s been an amazing football journey seeing him play for Leicester city as a 7 year old to settling in at a Club with a fantastic fan base. Port Vale you are truly amazing.
