Roman Curtis, Connor Hall and Ruari Paton all found the target as the Valiants won their first home friendly of the summer.
The Valiants still had several players missing from their line-up including Nathan Smith, George Byers, Funso Ojo and Jayden Stockley. An inexperienced bench included youth teamers Liam Brazier, Zayn Sadiq and Joao Pervide. The Luton team included first-teamers Andros Townsend, Cauley Woodrow and Joe Taylor.
The visitors took the lead on eleven minutes thanks to a free-kick from Townsend but the Valiants hit back with two goals in quick succession. Firstly, Ronan Curtis was on hand on twenty minutes to convert Paton’s pass. Then six minutes later, passes from Curtis and Chislett set up Connor Hall to put the home side ahead.
Good work from Plant almost increased Vale’s lead. Firstly, a good drive was saved before the youngster set up Paton for a shot which was saved.
Half-time: Port Vale 2-1 Luton Town
Vale almost stretched their lead early in the second period but Heneghan’s header was cleared off the line. Chislett then went close with a deflected effort.
Luton were next to threaten and had the ball in the net on 67 minutes only for it to be disallowed for an infringement.
However, Vale made the game safe as Paton scored his first goal on 69 minutes thanks to good work from Hall and Chislett.
After two friendly defeats, it was a welcome return to form for the Valiants.
Full-time: Port Vale 3-1 Luton Town
Port Vale
Ripley, Lomax, Hart, Heneghan (Debrah), Hall, Croasdale, Garrity, Plant, Chislett (Lowe), Curtis, Paton ( Tolaj)
Subs: Amos, Sadiq, Pervade, Brazier

While I’m awfully sceptical about the manager and the gamble on the amount of money that is being spent on untried players at this level, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The level of opposition will become much stronger once the season gets underway but it was a much improved performance from anything else I’ve seen so far. Chislett was the pick of the crop while the hard working Paton and Curtis were.not far behind .
CONNOR HALL YOU HAVE BEEN MY ASPECT SINCE YOU LEFT AND YOU ARE IT NOW.
A good workout against a Championship team.
not bad against reserve team
Connor Hall is a great addition and we missed him badly last season. Let’s hope we have turned the corner and look forward to a promotion season.
