Striker Ben Waine is set to join Chris Birchall in being only the second current Port Vale player to play at the World Cup finals.
The New Zealand forward has been named in the Kiwis squad to play the 2026 World Cup this summer. Waine has been named in a 26 man squad. The team’s programme includes a warm-up friendly against England during which Waine could well feature.
This season the forward became the sixth player to find the target while on International duty at the club. Waine, who is the seventeenth player to earn an International cap while at Port Vale, has also moved into fourth place in the club’s list of International appearances.
