Port Vale manager Jon Brady says the club’s summer recruitment “needs to be a lot better” and target “players on the way up”
Brady has one eye on a summer rebuild as Vale’s future looks extremely likely to be in League Two. The manager has inherited a bloated and unbalanced squad and will need to undertake substantial changes over the summer.
We have to look at how we can do things better. Recruitment needs to be a lot better, especially on that top line…
Brady told BBC Radio Stoke: “We have to look at how we can do things better. Recruitment needs to be a lot better, especially on that top line.
The manager added that in terms of forwards he wanted: “Power, pace, athleticism, players who can put the ball in the back of the net, are hungry to run and work hard and have an attitude and application to get better every day.
“Players who are on the up in their career, not players who are on the way down.”
The Vale boss’s words suggest the club will focus on developing players rather than looking at established or veteran players. This would fit in with Brady’s reputation for improving players through coaching.

I think a lot of people would agree with him, but that would take time. We have 4 good midfielders at league two level, some may be towards the end of their careers, but certainly have at least another good season in them at this level. With the work rate he gets from his players I can’t see us conceding to many goals it’s just the forward line that needs totally revamping.
Sounds very good we would all agree with Mr Brady statement however we have got four good young players in shorrock Lomax plant and Walters only Walters has been given any game time lets see these players given a go now that we are as good as relegated its alright saying the right things but we are yet to see any action
I think he means picking young players coming through at other clubs as well. Like I said on another post, a few double digit scorers in early mid 20s who are doing well in league 2 or conference. Josh Stones is one example.
Return to austere Gordon Lee days.
Still no Jack Shorrock guess I’ll have to ask Sherlock Holmes to solve the mystery
