An angry Jon Brady said that forward Ben Waine was the only Port Vale player whose attitude was worthy of praise after the team lost 4-0 at home to Stockport County in the Football League Trophy.
Another dreadful Port Vale display saw them dumped out at the quarter-final stage and Brady told the media “I have had strong words with them because to crumble like we did: they had four shots on target and scored four goals. It’s way too easy to score. Ben (Amos) just let it go through his hands (for the third goal). You can’t legislate for that. Rhys Walters doesn’t pick the guy up at the back post. Big, strong boy, gets his opportunity. You have to be stronger than that. It is nowhere near good enough. Nowhere near.
“And the pitch… no disrespect to the groundsmen, it is just what has been done here hasn’t worked. It is holding so much water and, with the clay underneath, it is like quicksand out there at the moment.”
The only player exempt from criticism was Ben Waine with Brady adding: “The only one was Ben Waine tonight. I thought his attitude epitomises what we need at this club. He is playing like his life is on the line for it. That is what I need.”

Ben Waine is a shining light this season.
I thought Ben Heneghan and Jordan Shipley also played well last night. For the Ben Amos og, Jayden Stockley made a back for him, forcing him to fall backwards into the goal. The match stats were grim last night – 23% possession
BEN WAYNE has been our best player for the last three games,as for the rest, they need to take a long hard look at themselves,,and do what ben is doing, playing for PORT VALE,i would like to see him play the full 90 sat (subbed the last-three),its the least he deserves.
Ben Waine was praised not because he played well but because he ran around, Brady said that is the least Vale fans should expect from a Vale team. Sadly Brady is not delivering on the least Vale fans should expect which is very disappointing. Not for one minute did I expect whoever came in turn us into world beaters, but I did expect the basics to improve, being hard working and just being organised. Yet we’ve actually got worse .
It’s about time the players looked at them selfs and think how lucky they are if they worked else where they would be sacked
That’s because he is young and hungry , how many times , get the u18’s + shorrock , lomax in , nothing to lose and trust me u will be pleasantly surprised!!!!!
