Port Vale have confirmed the appointment of former Northampton Town manager Jon Brady to succeed Darren Moore.
Moore was sacked by the club on the 28th December and this appointment does allow the new manager most of the January transfer window to potentially make changes to the squad.
According to the club, Brady has signed an 18 month contract and will be charge of Vale’s FA Cup tie against Fleetwood Town on Friday.

18 mths seems about ✅️. Good Luck joh I have a feeling u might need it .
Let’s get behind him play Down Under by men at work ,brilliant .
He can’t be worse than Moore, so good luck I’ve a feeling you’re going to need it. Let’s hope he has realised its a 4 4 2 not 5 at the back! Let’s get behind him and the team and everyone get their prayer mats out and let’s see how it plays out.
If he’ s half as good as their cricket team he’ll do for me!
It’s a huge challenge he’s taken on, and I really hope the players fully buy into what he’s asking of them. We saw real promise in those two good performances where the team clearly responded, even if the weather conspired against us and halted that momentum. Of course, it will take a little time for both the manager and the players to properly understand each other’s strengths, but time is short and the gap could grow if the squad continues to rotate as it did under the previous regime.
It won’t take him long to identify where improvements are needed, and it’s clear that some trimming of the squad may be necessary before new faces arrive at Vale Park. Still, it would be wrong not to wish him every success. He knows exactly the size of the task ahead and, hopefully, embraces it head-on without falling back on the idea that the damage was already done before he arrived.
Give it everything, play with purpose and positivity rather than simply keeping possession, and if relegation does come, let it be with our heads held high, knowing we fought right to the final whistle.
Good luck, John!
Given all circumstances Brady’s appointment is a solid decision, with the reported 18 month contract being a sensible commitment. Brady’s reputation for meticulous hard work in the lower divisions and getting the best out of players is what the club and supporters should be pleased about. His automatic promotion with Northampton Town from League 2 also shows he knows what it takes to revive Vale if they are relegated. But, he inherits an extremely difficult challenge, needing consistent promotion form to escape relegation this season. I hope supporters will be open minded, and give their full support to Jon Brady.
