Manager Jon Brady says it will be tricky to attract players to the club when the Valiants are bottom of the League One table but he thinks the club have done “really well” to sign winger Ethon Archer.
The 23 year-old is Brady’s first signing after joining on loan from Luton Town.
You’ve got to balance the group – who can make a difference for you right now? You maybe able to get one or two in. I think in the position we’re in we’ve done really well to to get Ethon in. The position we’re in works against us…
Brady told BBC Radio Stoke: “I want to find players that can make a difference. Obviously, I think we have players within the building that can make a difference (too).”
The manager says he wants to create a balanced squad adding: “I’m trying to get a blend and balance. We could play the shape we have played, we could flip shapes. I think you’ve got to balance everything. You’ve got to balance the group – who can make a difference for you right now? You maybe able to get one or two in. I think in the position we’re in we’ve done really well to to get Ethon in. The position we’re in works against us.”
Brady saw some promising signs after the away defeat to Mansfield Town commenting: “If you could have bottled that first 54 minutes and added that to the final whistle I think we could have come out with at least a draw. I think that defensively we looked really good first-half.”
However, the manager was blunt with his overall assessment of the performance concluding: “We need to be strong and resilient. I saw one gritty side to us and then a side which wasn’t good enough.”
