Irish forward Ruari Paton says “It doesn’t matter” what competition the spark comes from but if the team can bring their Trophy form into the League games it could help turn their form around.
After a poor run of League form, the Valiants triumphed 5-0 in the Football League Trophy in midweek. Although many fans see the competition as largely irrelevant, Paton thinks it can benefit the team.
He told the in-house PVTV team: “The start of our run needs to come from somewhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s the cup. We just need to get into the habit of scoring goals. If we can bring what we did well in that game into the next couple of League games.”
The forward is enthusiastic going into the festive period adding: “It’s getting to the busy period now and I’m looking forward to it. Pick up as many points as we can and as far as we can in the cups.”
The team’s morale will be helped by the Trophy win with Paton commenting: “Everyone’s in a much better mood. There is that positive feeling of winning.”
As for the striker, he says he’s always full of confidence saying: “I don’t lack much of it (confidence). I’ll try and bring what I’ve done into the next couple of games. I’ll like to play as a two or behind a striker. I think I need freedom and be able to roam around the pitch. the other night I just tried to play with a bit more freedom. I think I can open up the games at times. I think coming off a striker in a little pocket is where I’m most useful.”

We played well so let’s keep the same team and see what happens. The wing backs system doesn’t work for me. We get caught out all the time. So I hope he sticks to the same formation, still not a big fan of is though.up the vale
I’ve liked Rory from the off, despite others moaning about him. I see a good footballer, one who effective with good players around him.
When he first came, and was occasionally played, the ball was just banged up to him from the back, giving him no chance when surrounded by two or three defenders.
Like Tolaj, Moore needs to play him where he’s best, and give him a decent run. If he does that he will score goals, and may well become a valuable asset.
There was a reason why Vale paid a six figure fee to sign Paton, obviously because they rated his potential after consecutive free scoring seasons in the Scottish Championship. He’s always impressed me with his alertness, ability to take up dangerous positions, and clean striking of the ball very reminiscent of Bobby Gough. Paton’s also very adept at taking direct free kicks outside the opponents penalty area. Like other players under Moore’s rotation policy, he’s suffered from inconsistent starting selection. I see Cole and Paton as the club’s best and most effective strike partnership. Moore should stick with them, and reap the rewards.
Where is Ruari Paton, he’s not on the injury list?
