Ralph Hunt was signed by manager Norman Low while Low was in hospital
Port Vale were managed by Norman Low and finished in twelfth place in Division Three. Vale had rebuilt their side with the likes of Stan Steele, John Nicholson and Ralph Hunt being signed. The latter had a short but spectacular stay. Signed for £3,500, he arrived ten minutes before his debut during which he scored a hat-trick against Shewsbury Town. He added two in this game, his second appearance, but then lost his place and was sold to Newport County for £2,000 despite six goals in 14 games for the Valiants.

Played on the 23rd December, this marked an upturn in form for Vale. Having not won in five previous games, they managed three consecutive wins over the festive period.

Teams listed in order of 1-11 shirt numbers, and the old 2-3-5 tactical formation of defensive full backs, half back line, and five forwards including two wingers. The name Bly is listed at centre forward for Peterborough. Terry Bly hit the headlines around that time, scoring 50 plus goals in a season. Legendary Vale players in the line up, Hancock, Sproson, Poole and Miles. I was fortunate to see them play many times. Wonder what would happen if Darren Moore selected his team in the 2-3-5 formation ?!
