Port Vale manager Darren Moore says the tackle on Kyle John which injured the Vale defender “didn’t have to be made” and he was “disappointed” with it.
Accrington forward Paddy Madden caught John from behind in the second-half. He was booked as John was forced off. It was a cruel blow for the wingback who has only just returned from injury.
We weren’t best pleased but I can only hope over the next couple of days it’s not as sore. But he is finding bearing weight on it a little bit difficult so we will wait to see over the next 48 hours…
Moore told the media: “It was a challenge that didn’t have to be made. He was round the player who has clipped him from behind. On a night like this you don’t want any injuries, and especially with him just coming back. That was why I was so disappointed with it.
“We weren’t best pleased but I can only hope over the next couple of days it’s not as sore. But he is finding bearing weight on it a little bit difficult so we will wait to see over the next 48 hours. It was his ankle. We’ll wait and see. He’s got the ice pack on it and the physios are seeing to him. Hopefully it will settle down in the next couple of days and we will see how he is.”
John’s departure saw teenager Ben Lomax make his first appearance of the season and he could now come into contention as Vale’s defensive injury woes continue.
The Valiants are already without Liam Gordon, Jaheim Headley and Mitch Clark. If John joins them on the sidelines it would leave youngster Jack Shorrock as the only left-sided wingback (although Ronan Curtis and Jordan Shipley have filled in there) while Jordan Gabriel would be the only senior right wingback with Lomax as cover (although Curtis has also covered on the right).

It was a nasty challenge. Madden knew what he was doing He came down hard on John’s Achilles , and should have been sent off. No intention to play the ball.
RED CARD ALL DAY LONG,
