Striker Devante Cole says it’s too early to call his pairing with Ruari Paton a partnership but there are “signs” that the duo can work well together.
For me, it’s a case to getting back to enjoying football. I always believe I can score goals…
Cole has scored in both of his two appearances for the club since joining on deadline day and he told the local media: “Obviously it’s a good start and it’s what I wanted to do – get off to a good start. Physically I’m probably not feeling my best yet but just happy to get off to a good start.”
The striker was linked to the club over the summer but the player says the deal only came to fruition in the final days of the window. He said “I don’t know where the rumours came from as it was far from true. It was a call the night before it gone done. It was a call with the manager which probably swayed it. It was very last minute. It was just a mad day really.”
However, he was delighted to see the move happen and is confident in his own abilities adding: “For me, it’s a case to getting back to enjoying football. I always believe I can score goals.”
Cole is also looking forward to working with Darren Moore again saying: “We had a really good conversation. We had that basic understanding. He’s someone that I know I liked before and wanted to work for again.”
As for the partnership with Ruari Paton which saw both players link up well and score on Saturday Cole commented: “He’s a lively character. You try to get on with whoever you play with and try and build a relationship. It’s only been one week so there’s a long way to go before we can call it a real partnership. There’s signs there that we could definitely suit each other. “
