Port Vale manager Darren Moore said the performance of his team during the 3-0 defeat to Grimsby Town was “unacceptable.”
The Valiants were well beaten on the day and are now without a win in the League since early November.
Moore’s comments to the media…
On what went wrong
It looks like everything went wrong in my opinion. When the game settled down we kept going into bad habits, bad habits I haven’t seen before. There were things we were doing, in and out of possesion of the ball, where I wondered where the players were mentally. When you’re not there mentally, physically, the legs aren’t going to follow.
On the performance:
Today’s performance was unacceptable and the players know that. I’ve said that to them and hence the reason why I took the whole group over there and we stood in front of the fans. I needed the players to feel the disapproval of the fans. A lot of things for us went wrong, in and out of possession of the ball and we didn’t do the simple basics well.
On set pieces:
Just at the moment, it’s almost like we get caught in a trance. It seems either we can’t see the flight of the ball or get the timing right to keep it out of the box.
On team work:
(The team are) doing things individually, playing individually instead of collectively as a team. We’re not getting the basic structure of our mindset right in order to drag us out of this rut.
How he aims to stop the rot:
As a manager, it’s clear for me to see that we have to go back to the simple basics. It’s the same group of players that the supporters were cheering a couple of months ago. Get them in the morning, show them the footage of earlier on in the season and show them the footage now. We’ve got to go back to the basics and remind them that that’s what is required. It’s only us that’s going to get us out of this situation. It’s up to us to press that reset button and it is a major reset button.
On Jayden Stockley’s absence:
He picked up a knock in the Bradford game. Unsure how he’s going to be over the next 48 hours. He was a major miss today.
On Mitch Clark’s return to the starting eleven:
Good to see Mitch back out there now. He’s had a long layoff but that’s him back now.

If I was the vale manager I’d get on touch with stoke city about signing Jason low on low till end of season
Darren more you Sign most of these players so we should hold you responsible for this down drop in performance most look unfit or then injured has for the goalie he needs a could coach how to stop a ball entering the net he as cost us a lot of points with is daft attitude.
Same excuses time after time and the performances seem to be getting worse. New Year’s day is the end of the road and if he does go take Byers alongside another of his injury prone signings
