Left wingback Conor Grant has told the media that it took a lot of hard work to regain his fitness and place in the Port Vale team and it was a “relief” to make his comeback in the game against Harrogate.
It is a completely different feeling. Winning breeds confidence and long may it continue…
Conor Grant on the difference between this season and the last one
The former Plymouth Argyle player was signed last summer but his first season at Vale Park was marked by injuries as he made thirty League appearances during Vale’s relegation from League One.
Grant was injured again in the summer and many felt his days in Burslem could be numbered after manager Darren Moore brought in Sam Hart and Kyle John, both of whom can play in Grant’s position.
However, this season has been notable for Moore utilising his whole squad and that has included an impressive return to action for Grant, who has looked in good form during the five games in which he’s featured.
Speaking to the media, Grant conceded it had been a long road back saying: “In pre-season I’ve been working really hard to get fit.” He added that “It was a relief to get it (his return to action in the game against Harrogate) over with. ”
The left wingback has welcomed the competition that the likes of Hart and John have provided adding: “Obviously the lads have done brilliantly and started off the season fantastically. It was a case of being patient. The whole squad is being used brilliantly.” He added “That’s the way it should be. There’s probably two players at least for every position.”
The 29 year-old has also noticed the different atmosphere between his first and second seasons at the club saying that this season is “a completely different feeling. Winning breeds confidence and long may it continue.”
