A disappointed Darren More said the draw against Colchester United on Tuesday was “two points dropped”. He also gave an update on George Byers’ first-half injury.
Vale were dominant against an ahem… “resilient” Colchester team but have only themselves to blame for not turning their dominance into goals and sealing the three points before Colchester’s late equaliser.
Here are the Port Vale manager’s thoughts…
On George Byers’ injury
He came off because he jarred his knee as he landed. In the next 24 hours we can assess him as it settles down. But at the moment it is too early to say.
On Colchester’s tactics
I am hoping my players can learn from teams just coming here to try to nullify you. There is nothing against that. You won’t hear me have a go because it is up to us to try to break that down. That is why at half-time we changed the system, that opened them up a bit and gave us lots of room to operate.
On the game itself
The most disappointing and frustrating thing (is) that we’ve not come away with three points. I thought we were dominant. You have to look at Colchester, they came and tried to make it really hard for us. I thought we saw the versatility of the squad with how we can flip things if a game isn’t going our way. With the players we have got we can change it and I thought we got the upper hand. We got the goal and I thought we had scored a second but it was ruled out for offside then it was just a matter of keeping concentration and doing your jobs. So for the goal to come against us as late as it did is frustrating. I feel it is two points dropped. As I have said to the boys in there, ‘yes be disappointed with the goal but let’s learn from it.’

We seem to be doing a lot of learning this season, but none of it is going in !
I don’t have a problem with teams coming and parking the bus, it’s up to us as the gaffer says to break it down. I do have a problem with blatant cheating and making the officials look worse than they are. The guy should have been sent off or in the past carried off ( Andy Porter) for his play acting and sticking two fingers up at the vale supporters in the paddock when he scored his goal
