“Concentration and effort” – Darren Moore impressed with Port Vale’s opening day win
Port Vale manager Darren Moore praised the professionalism of his Port Vale team as they recorded a 2-0 opening day win at Salford City on Saturday.
The Valiants won thanks to two goals from skipper Ben Garrity but Moore felt the attitude of the entire team was spot on as they controlled the match.
We spoke a lot in pre-season about starting the season on the right footing. I thought every single one of the players did that…
Moore told the media: “I am absolutely delighted to come away with three points. Two goals from set plays and, importantly, the clean sheet.
“What impressed me most was the way the team went about the game, the tone they set from the off. We gained control of the game very quickly and we were able to maintain that throughout. The boys showed tremendous concentration and effort and that was needed to come here and win.
“We spoke a lot in pre-season about starting the season on the right footing. I thought every single one of the players did that. It was important to get hold of the game really early and gain control.
“I didn’t think we allowed Salford much, we really suffocated them in areas, forced errors from them and got the ball back. The boys maintained that throughout the game.”

Great start to the season we looked to have the correct fight about us. I was particularly impressed with us going on the front foot and not playing around at the back a lot, also the defense looked solid midfield worked well with the ball and also without and the front boys stayed high and worked hard for the team. We have more height which has already paid off in game one. I feel I must mention the fantastic support to every Vale fan at the game you did us all and the club proud, could be heard all match getting behind the team. Up the Vale.

Great performance all round. Sang !! Well played. Man of the match for me.
We’re going to scare a lot of teams with performances like this.
No going backwards like last season, it was one direction football.
