Port Vale have confirmed the signing of former Sheff Wed midfielder George Byers on a three year deal, their seventh signing of a busy summer.
Byers will be reunited with Darren Moore, his former manager at Wednesday. The 28 year-old has agreed a three year deal with the club.
Byers scored one goal in 22 Championship appearances for Wednesday last season before being loaned to Blackpool.
“George is a player who I know really well from my time at Sheffield Wednesday. His energy, drive and quality on the ball will be attributes that are appreciated by our supporters,” Moore told the official website.
“Positive competition in all positions is vital and George will come in and add even stronger competition for places amongst our already-competitive midfield options.”

Cass opts for Grimsby
Meanwhile, defender Lewis Cass, who left the club in the summer has agreed to join League Two rivals Grimsby Town.
The 24-year-old made 71 appearances for the Valiants but finished the 2023-24 season on loan at League Two winners Stockport County, where he scored once in nine league appearances.

Auntie carol is certainly putting her money where her mouth is, looking forward to this season now …goooarn the Vale
There can be no doubt the pull Darren Moore has or else we would not have attracted the quality we have in these signings the latest is another great piece of business credit to the owners for doing what they have promised looks like exciting times ahead UTV
Byers is another very solid signing. Moore’s new and revitalized squad appears (on paper) to have more than enough quality and depth to launch a League 2 promotion challenge. It’s now a question of establishing an effective formation with consistent team work. Moore’s overall management career win rate suggests he can achieve that.
What a shame Carol didn’t invest a small portion of this money in attempting to keep us in league one. After the disastrous season we’ve just had and Carol’s blind support for Mr Flitcroft she dare not let Moore fail, especially after her comment about him being “the only one I wanted”. No other manager has previously had this level of financial support by the club’s owners, which only highlights their fear of what yet another failure in someone they have put so much faith in could do to their popularity. Sadly the club is on course for yet another season of record loses.
To Ian
What negativity the past is gone, why bother to turn up with your attitude. Good signings and things look promising for the new season to come.
I agree with alexandra ian, forget last season, things are looking good,(on paper anyway),so come on lets hit the ground running, and see what the new season in LEAGUE TWO, brings us come may,i for one think we can finish in the top six, where in the top six is another matter,
Ian, maybe you need some therapy, why not try that other team across the city, you’re certainly not a Valiant
Welcome George Byers to P.V.F.C ⚽
Leave him alone to entitled to his opinion
SAX. I think you’re bang on the money. He is not a supporter and if he is we can do without him. I feel really geared up for this season. Might take few games for them to gel. But. C’mon you VALE. Thank you carol I’ve never for a moment questioned your loyalty to the club. We are all humans and make mistakes. But what you are doing is far from that. Again thank you for saving our club.
It’s always nice to read other people’s opinions, you should take note Alto Saxx. Firstly I have been attending the Vale since the 50s, not missed a home game since the 60s, and still travel to the majority of away games. So I think my loyalty to the club is possibly greater than yours. My opinions are not one where I’m high as a kite one second because we have won a game, or spitting feathers the next day because we loose. Strange things have happened and continue to happen at the Vale. The turn over in staff stinks of a club which is not being run properly. Redundancy payments continue to impact on the club and add to our debt, and the failure to support certain managers made relegation a certainty. Make no mistake failure by the club not to act and attempt to save the club from relegation has cost possibly millions. I like others am happy with the majority of the recruitment so far, but as I say I look at the picture overall. I personally do not like the way the club has gone about the modernisation of the club, the club has a small fan base and has now lost that personal touch that makes the likes of Port Vale special. I do not like the Railway Paddock left with no toilets, and paying supporters being taken for granted and left with Victorian conditions with an outside loo at the bottom of the garden. As for Saxx, there’s a gentleman in Russia with a similar attitude towards people who have a different opinion to his, he’s not related is he ?
