Port Vale rumour: are Valiants targeting a League Two striker?
Local papers claim a League Two striker is wanted by League One clubs with a well-known journalist claiming Port Vale is one of the clubs to show an interest.
League One clubs are allegedly targeting Bradford City striker Jake Young, who has been in prolific form on loan at Swindon Town. Young was recalled earlier this month after a spell which saw him score sixteen times in twenty six appearances for Town. The 21 year-old stands six foot one inches tall and has thirty two goals from 117 career appearances.
According to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus “A couple of League One clubs are preparing to table offers for Jake Young, the T&A understands. The striker is back with City from his Swindon loan, although he is nursing a slight ankle issue which could affect his involvement against Crawley tomorrow.
“The Bantams are not pushing to cash in on his 16-goal half-season in Wiltshire but there is definite interest. Boss Graham Alexander described that as “lukewarm” at this stage but that could well be firmed up in the coming days.
“Players are only allowed to turn out for two clubs in a season. Young’s absence at the weekend would inevitably stir up speculation that he is being held back for a move.”
A further story in the Yorkshire Post claimed that “Bradford City have reportedly rejected a bid for striker Jake Young. The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to League One after being recalled from a loan spell at Swindon Town.”
According to Alan Nixon, a journalist who is usually reliable in terms of transfer gossip, the League One clubs are Exeter City and Port Vale. Nixon says it would take a six figure sum to secure Young. Both Exeter and Vale have struggled upfront this season, so it’s no real surprise to see them linked with a forward signing.

Not sure if we’d get him but he’s the sort of signing we need. A permanent rather than loan player and young with a chance to develop (after all Wilson, Ikpeazu and Loft are no spring chickens). If not him then someone like him please Vale!
