Port Vale manager Andy Crosby praises travelling support after Reading game is abandoned
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby took time to praise the Port Vale fans who travelled to the subsequently abandoned Reading game on Saturday.
I felt that it was important to send a message to supporters acknowledging the long distance covered to get behind the team…
All attention was focused on the pitch but not to watch a game of football. Hundreds of Reading fans forced the game to be abandoned after sixteen minutes with their protests against owner Dai Yogge a result of deep concern about the future of their club
OVF Opinion – Reading call for help – the game should respond
Our view – while we have every sympathy for the Port Vale players and especially the fans who paid good money to see this game, we support the loyal Reading fans fighting for the future of their club. While annoying for those wanting to watch this game, this is a bigger issue – the future of a fellow football club…
It was an understandable protest by a group of concerned fans. Similar protests have been held at Vale Park against previous owners in recent years, albeit none of them have ever caused an abandonment. The postponement meant the travelling Port Vale fans had a wasted journey to Berkshire.
Crosby told the club’s media team after the game: “On behalf of myself, the players and the backroom staff I would like to thank all our supporters who made the trip to Reading this afternoon to support the lads.
“It’s unfortunate that the game could not be concluded but I felt that it was important to send a message to supporters acknowledging the long distance covered to get behind the team.
“We hope you all had a safe journey back and we will see you all at Vale Park next Saturday.”
