“The togetherness is there” – matchwinner Ollie Arblaster’s praise for players and fans
Port Vale goalscorer Ollie Arblaster says he hopes his winning goal against Exeter will prompt the team to a positive run of games as he praised the spirit of the squad and the travelling support.
Arblaster’s first-half goal, Vale’s first League goal from open play in an age, proved decisive as Vale ended their winless run with a potentially vital away win over Exeter City.
We fully deserved it. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, conditions and everything. Massive credit to the lads and the togetherness we’ve showed…
Talking about his goal Arblaster said it was something the team had worked on in training commenting: “I said it to a few of the lads in the hotel that I was going to score today. Gaz (Ben Garrity) flicked it on and we’ve worked on it. It was good to get on the end of it and put it away.”
Arblaster conceded that the team had to win ugly saying: “We fully deserved it. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, conditions and everything. Massive credit to the lads and the togetherness we’ve showed.”
“It’s been a difficult period but you could see the togetherness was there with players and fans. Hopefully it puts us on a good run again.
“The second-half was horrible to be honest. The conditions and the wind blowing on our goal. The ball just kept coming back. How we defended on our line, I thought ‘fantastic.'”
The on loan midfielder also heaped praise on the supporters adding: ” The fans who came down today, I thought they were brilliant. They thoroughly deserved the three points and I’m glad we can reward them with that.”
