“Proud” – Andy Crosby praises youngsters Ben Lomax and Rhys Walters after performances at Wrexham
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby said that, despite the result, he was pleased with the performances of his young Port Vale side.
Defender Ben Lomax, on his debut, and midfielder Rhys Walters both caught the eye with Crosby saying of the pair: “Delighted for him (Ben Lomax). What a great kid! Stepped in and performed to an incredible level. He can go home proud of his performance. His performances (Rhys Walters) have gradually improved the more experience he gets. He should come away thinking really rightly proud of his performance.”
The Valiants took the lead before Wrexham brought on three senior players and ended up winning 2-1 after a strong second-half display. Crosby said: “We came here to win. 100%. We’ve currently got seven players injured and one suspended. But we finished off the game with eight academy players on the pitch which I think is the future of this football club. I thought we were excellent first-half but they were the better team second-half.”
Crosby was also pleased to see midfielder Tom Conlon return from long-term injury adding it was: “Good for Tom to get back out there.”
