Lewis Cass on the draw with Burton – “We dug in as a team… everyone sticks together”
Port Vale defender Lewis Cass has praised the Port Vale team after they held on for a goalless draw with Burton Albion despite being reduced to ten men for the majority of the game.
The Valiants lost captain Nathan Smith early on to a read card but held out to record a 0-0 draw and take Burton to a replay.
Speaking to the media after the game, Cass said: “We dug in as a team after the sending-off. We dug in right till the end and we got a few chances as we tried to catch them on the break and I thought in possession we were the better side.
“When going gets tough, everyone sticks together. It just shows everyone’s ready to step in.”
Cass reserved praise for sponsors’ man of the match Connor Ripley adding: “Connor was brilliant when we needed them. We’ll recover and go again Tuesday.”
The defender is also happy with his recent run of games after he was injured earlier in the season. He commented: “Obviously it’s frustrating. You get a bit of a niggle and you have to come out of a few games and it knocks a bit of your momentum. You try and go again and hopefully I can get a few games going now and get back to my best.”
