Port Vale’s James Wilson – fitness routine is “going to plan at the moment”
Port Vale forward James Wilson says additional training sessions are helping as he put his fitness concerns behind him to make consecutive starts for the club.
Wilson had an injury plagued 2022-23 season but agreed a short-term deal to stay at the club over the summer. Vale have been rewarded so far after the striker made it two goals in two games when he scored from the penalty spot against Carlisle United.
He told the media: “I have worked hard to get here. I’ve worked extras. I think that was a big thing, me coming back to the club is to be available more. First season I was alright, I was available scoring goals but second season wasn’t great and I needed to get that availability up.
“We talked to the physios and the board and we worked out a plan and it’s going to plan at the minute. Very pleased at the minute.”
Wilson also says being a fans favourite also played a big part in his decision to stay at the club saying: “I felt loved with the fans and the coaches and the players as well so that was a big thing coming back and they’ve welcomed me back with open arms.”
The win over Carlisle saw Vale make it five games unbeaten and Wilson commented: “I think we talked about momentum before the game and keeping it. We will look straight forward to Tuesday now. We’ll come in Monday and work towards that.”
