The programme will the start of a regular one hour Port Vale special broadcast on BBC Radio Stoke every Thursday evening at 6pm and which will be co-hosted by former Vale defender Leon Legge.
Bowers told us: “We want to give Vale fans more coverage than just a match day. BBC Stoke already has a Vale podcast called Wembley of the North, but we wanted to do more than that.
“In bringing back the Sport at Six show, we thought one of the nights would work well dedicated to Vale, so here we are! Secondly its a labour of love for me. Its my club, and getting the opportunity to talk about it is a privilege and something I am keen on making sure Vale fans get the most out of. Thirdly, we wanted to get Leon’s expertise as an ex professional and someone who is still close to the club but has his own opinions and thoughts.
“From the conversations I’ve had with him he’s got lots of insight and ideas about how the give fans something they won’t get anywhere else.”
As for the new season, Bowers is all set for his matchday commentary stint. He told us: “I’m all set for the new season now. I think Vale have a tremendously tough start, but that said, I have a lot of time for Andy Crosby, he’s a good coach and the players have a lot of respect for him. I think Vale will be more disciplined at the back and will concede fewer goals, but the top half of the table looks a daunting prospect without a prolific goalscorer.”
