Port Vale confirm James Wilson departure
Port Vale have announced that striker James Wilson will leave the club following the expiration of his contract.
Wilson was one of the players announced as being in talks with the club but they were clearly unsuccessful.
Thank you for your endless support and for believing in me throughout my time at the club…
Wilson joined the club in the summer of 2021 and his form in his debut season – especially a fantastic run of form through the play-offs – played a huge role in the club’s promotion.
The striker’s future has been the subject of much debate – a fit Wilson is of a higher level than League One but his playing time this season has been badly disrupted by injury.
Director of Football, David Flitcroft told the official website:”On behalf of the club, the board would like to thank James for his contributions at Vale Park especially the part he played in helping us to achieve our place in League One through the play-offs last season.”
Wilson himself thanked the club commenting: “To the Valiants, thank you for your endless support and for believing in me throughout my time at the club. It was always going to be special being back at home and welcomed as your number 9, though I never anticipated the special memories we would make together and I hope you will always remember them fondly. Thank you to all.”
Wilson made a total of 74 appearances and scored eighteen goals.
