What could have been… red card that arguably cost Clarke his job is overturned
In an alternative universe, Port Vale would not have been defeated at Lincoln City and Darrell Clarke would arguably still be in a job.
The news that Tom Conlon’s bizarre red card has been overturned is bitterweet on a day which saw Clarke lose his manager’s job at the club.
The dismissal of Conlon as Vale were celebrating taking the lead in the first-half was not seen by many but caused a furious reaction from the Vale bench.
Arguably, Vale would have been too strong for Lincoln with eleven players to the host’s ten but we’ll never know. The actual game finished in a 3-2 win for the home side and Clarke was dismissed on Monday morning.
According to an FA statement:
Port Vale’s Tom Conlon will be available for their next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.
The midfielder was sent off for violent conduct during their EFL League One game against Lincoln City on Saturday 15 April.
