Port Vale news digest: injury update on duo, CEO departs
A round-up of the latest news from Vale Park as there’s news about Lewis Cass and Ben Garrity plus the surprise departure of CEO Colin Garlick.
Bad news for Garrity and Cass
Injured duo Ben Garrity and Lewis Cass both look to have extended spells on the sidelines due to their calf injures. Darrell Clarke told the media: “He (Garrity) has had his calf scanned and is going to be a few more weeks. He is a very important player for us but we have to do better without him. With Cassy it is a similar thing. His calf is causing him problems and he has been set back longer.”
CEO Colin Garlick departs
Port Vale chief executive Colin Garlick has surprisingly left his post earlier than expected. Garlick was due to move on at the end of the season but he left his post at the weekend instead. Garlick joined the club in 2016 and played a key role in providing a stable transition to the Shanahan era. However, according to the club Garlick “will leave Vale Park following a restructure of the club’s Board of Directors and leadership group.” Speaking about his departure, Garlick told the media: “This is an emotional day for me and I am grateful I have what I think is a unique opportunity to say a big thank you and farewell to you all. This is a fantastic club and it has been a big part of my life for the last six-and-a-half years and I have enjoyed it tremendously.”
Valiants listen to fan concerns
The club will listen to feedback from supporters after announcing they won’t be taking cash payments in the Lorne Street kiosks for the remainder of the season. The club say the change to card only payments is to improve efficiency, mitigate against hygiene risks and reduce queues. However, there were a number of complaints at the supporters’ club meeting which have been passed onto the Vale’s media team.
