Bolton 2-1 Port Vale reaction – “there’s no panic about our situation…”
Post-match reaction from Darrell Clarke, Funso Ojo and Ian Evatt after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat for Port Vale…
Darrell Clarke
There is not a lot I can fault about the performance other than being soft for what I think might have been their only two shots on target. We have to defend better than that.
For my team to come here, have a right go and be on the front foot for most of the game, to not get anything is an absolute travesty, to be honest with you.
A massive thank you to the excellent support that we brought here today, they got behind the lads all game and it was a performance from the lads that probably warranted more.
We put some good moves together; we have just not defended for five or ten minutes of the game that we needed to defend, a little bit similar to Tuesday night against Morecambe with all our territory but we have to stop being a little bit soft at the other end.
There’s no panic about our situation. We are on 40 points with 25% of the season to go and I would have snapped your hand off for that at the start of the season, so we will just build towards the next game.
We have had a lot of disappointing results in the third quarter, as I call it, we have warranted a lot more but we have to stop being a hard luck story and make sure that we pick up as many points as we can in the last 12.
Funso Ojo
We were on top of them, but there are 12 games left, and we don’t want to keep saying that after the game. We played well, good individual performances, but came off with zero points.
(In the) next 12 games we need to make sure that the games we know we need to win, we win those, and when we put performances in like this, we get the three points as well or at least a draw.
It’s a tough league, you never know what you’re going to get, every team can beat every other team.
Like us today, this team (Bolton Wanderers), are playing for going to the Championship, they pay Championship wages, but I think we were a better team.
Ian Evatt
Today wasn’t about performances. It wasn’t about anything other than the three points.
The three points are what matters most. We managed to do it and we found a way.
It was always going to be really challenging after a really tough, emotional moment on Wednesday.
The players were really high, the club was really high and with one day less recovery to get set and ready for a team who I thought were excellent, Port Vale.
Credit to them. They were full of energy, really asked us questions and put it on us. We just didn’t look our usual, fluid selves.
