Port Vale could record a four figure crowd for Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup tie against Liverpool after more than 750 tickets were sold for the game.
The Vale youngsters are competing in the fourth round for the first time in more than decade and will face a Liverpool side coached by former Vale favourite Marc Bridge-Wilkinson.
Port Vale CEO Colin Garlick told the Sentinel: “This is a great occasion, it’s great for us to be in the fourth round. The lads have earned the right to be here playing at Vale Park in a big game. The opponents don’t half make this so much more attractive because it tells you we have got so far into the competition.
“It’s a cup competition and there will be 11 v 11 on Wednesday evening and our guys will relish that. They have given a good account of themselves all season but particularly in this competition.”
The Vale youth side features four players who have made their first-team debuts this season – captain Tommy McDermott, fellow midfielder Rhys Walters, forward James Plant and left-sided defender Jack Shorrock (the club’s youngest first-team player).
