Port Vale rumour: former Valiants loanee reportedly attracts Premier League bid
To some surprise in Port Vale quarters, the website Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid to sign former Valiants loanee Thierry Small on a permanent basis.
A multi-million pound purchase from Everton by Southampton, the left wingback arrived at Vale Park in the summer with a burgeoning reputation. However, Small failed to set pulses racing in Burslem and his loan spell was cut short after he made just eight appearances for the Vale, several of them in a somewhat unfamiliar forward role.
As a result of his lack of opportunities, he was recalled by parent club Southampton in November.
According to the Football Insider website:
Tottenham have submitted a bid for Southampton defender Thierry Small, sources have told Football Insider.
The London giants have made a move for the left-back, 18, as he weighs up multiple offers going into deadline day.
Small is also believed to have two loan offers on the table from Scottish Premiership clubs, one of which is understood to be St Mirren.
Spurs are keen on a permanent deal for Small, who they regard as a young player with huge potential and the ability to break into their first team even though he is being overlooked at the Saints.
