Reports claim loanee Thierry Small has left Port Vale
Reports online claim that Port Vale loanee Thierry Small has been recalled by parent club Southampton.
Small joined the Valiants on a season-long loan but has struggled for game time in Burslem. The claims have not been confirmed by Port Vale.
The Football Insider website claims:
Southampton have terminated Thierry Small’s loan deal with Port Vale on Thursday, sources have told Football Insider.
The defender, 18, is heading back to his parent club after signing for the League One outfit during the summer on a season-long loan.
Vale currently have six players on loan but are only allowed to name five in their matchday squad. The departure of Small would, at least, solve this issue.
Southampton have activated a recall clause in Small’s deal after the move turned sour.
The £5m signing from Everton has struggled for game time at the third-tier club, who already had two left-backs, his preferred position, when he signed….
He has continued to be overlooked by Port Vale and Southampton have decided to end the loan deal.
Small was originally signed as a left wingback but has found himself behind the likes of Mal Benning, Dan Jones and fellow loanee Liam McCarron. Small has recently been deployed as a forward but his last appearance was in October and he has made just three starts since the season began.
The Valiants currently have six players on loan, but only five can be named in the matchday squad, so the departure of Small would at least solve this issue.
