League One manager in danger of the sack, moans about Port Vale again
To no great surprise, serial moaner Ben Garner has been complaining about his latest trip to Burslem.
Garner, who incorrectly said James Wilson’s goal was offside and complained that the Valiants didn’t water the pitch for his side when his Swindon Town side lost in the play-offs was at it again after his Charlton side were beaten by the Valiants at the weekend.
The Charlton boss was suspended from the dugout after being sent-off in a 4-4 draw with Ipswich. In an entirely typical response to the ban, Garner (of course) whined that “I was booked for nothing. The reason given in the statement was untrue, and the video evidence shows that.”
Reacting to Saturday’s defeat and seemingly oblivious to a superb footballing winner by Danny Butterworth, omni-complainer Garner accused the Vale of being “anti-football.”
In a post-match whinge to the media Garner, winless in his last three games, moaned that “Port Vale are like 80 per cent of teams in this league. They just set out to stop you playing. There’s no ambition for them to go and attack and take the game to you. They’re at home today and their whole ambition was to sit and stop us. Make it a dull game and try and nick it 1-0, which they did. The way (they) play, they play anti-football. They just want to stop you.”
It’s a comment that approximately 0% of Vale fans will be surprised about. However, despite Garner’s complaints, their anti-football club still sit comfortably above Garner’s expensively compiled but struggling side.
A short history of moaning – Garner on Port Vale…
“I don’t think the officiating helped the game in any way. I thought he should have clamped down much earlier. There were five fouls in the first two minutes of the game…”

“It’s frustrating to play a play-off game and the home team are refusing to water the pitch. It doesn’t sit well with me…”
Garner moans that the Vale Park groundstaff weren’t at the away team’s beck and call in the play-off semi-final second leg
“It’s a very bitter pill to swallow because their goal is offside.”

Charlton fan here. No problem at all with anything you’ve said on here, and absolutely no problem with you or Port Vale as a club. Please don’t describe our team as “expensively compiled”, though! Garner was promised money to spend by our owner when he joined us, and all he’s been given is a handful of free transfers – we’re having to play kids in a lot of matches.
Best of luck for the rest of your season.
