Cardiff City appoint former Port Vale first-team coach
Dean Whitehead, who was part of the backroom staff during Port Vale’s successful 2021-22 promotion season has been appointed first-team coach by Championship side Cardiff City.
Whitehead joined the coaching staff at League Two side Port Vale in July 2021 as part of director of football David Flitcroft’s summer overhaul.
Following his appointment, manager Darrell Clarke said that Whitehead “is definitely someone our squad can look up to”.
Having helped Vale to win promotion at the end of the 2021–22 season, he moved to Turkey in July 2022 alongside fellow Vale coach Adam Murray at Süper Lig champions Beşiktaş
Whitehead left Beşiktaş earlier this year and has now joined Cardiff’s interim manager Mark Hudson as first-team coach.
Hudson told the media: “I’ve worked with him before. He’s just been at Besiktas which shows his top qualities and he’s a good coach and a good human being.”
