Port Vale skipper’s brutally honest sell-assessment – “under no illusions that I need to get back to my best”
Port Vale skipper Tom Conlon’s commitment to the cause has never been in doubt and he told the media at the weekend that his form has not been good enough and needs to improve.
Conlon has been a shining light in the Port Vale midfield in recent years, but he has struggled in recent games since coming back from long-term injury, something that can improve as he plays more minutes on the pitch.
The captain is also adapting to a new, more withdrawn central midfield role which also takes time.
My main focus is getting back to form as quickly as I can. I am playing a different role, which is something I want to get better at and I am under no illusions that I need to get back to my best…
In a brutally honest sell-assessment, Conlon told the media: “I am pleased to get there (to 150 appearances for the club) but now I want to get to 200, that is my next goal, but my main focus is getting back to form as quickly as I can.
“I am playing a different role, which is something I want to get better at and I am under no illusions that I need to get back to my best.
“I am doing everything I can to get there, I am not there yet but that is something I am building to and that is my personal motivation.”
Conlon’s dedication is not in doubt and Vale fans can be confident that the captain will do all he can to return to the form which saw him sweep the club’s player of the year awards back in 2021.
