I was an angry man – Darrell Clarke furious after Port Vale draw with Cheltenham Town
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has said that the performance was nowhere near good enough after the Valiants were held to a home draw with Cheltenham Town.
Vale lost out on three points after the visitors grabbed a late equaliser and Clarke was furious about the players’ performances.
The players are under no illusions. The standards in that first 20 or 30 minutes of this game were shocking, absolutely shocking…
He told the media: “The performance wasn’t good enough, nowhere near it. The lads got it half time and they got at the end of the game. Standards have to be higher. We have to be better than that.
“Today we weren’t clinical when we need to be and we didn’t see the game out. Five or six tackles were missed for their goal, that is not good enough.
“I am a straight talker. The players are under no illusions. The standards in that first 20 or 30 minutes of this game were shocking, absolutely shocking. I don’t care if we were winning at half time, they still got it because I expect a lot better. I see a lot better.
“It was a frustrating afternoon. I am choosing my words carefully. I would like to thank the fans for their support. I didn’t thank them at the end of the game because I was an angry man but I thank everyone that came and supported the boys. I feel like we have let them down with chucking two points away.”
