Gives us that flexibility – Port Vale manager happy with squad depth after subs change game
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke said that “the impact of the substitutions were very good” after Port Vale secured a valuable 1-1 away draw against Barnsley.
After a backs to the wall first-half display the introduction of the likes of James Wilson, Gavin Massey, Dan Butterworth and Dennis Politic helped give Vale a more attacking edge as they hit back to equalise in the closing stages.
The impact of the substitutions were very good and that gives us that flexibility to be able to change things when we can…
Speaking to the media Clarke said: “It is a very good point. I thought we had a couple of great chances in the first half, we created quite a few good chances during the game. They are obviously a threat, they have just beaten Sheffield Wednesday 2-0, but we more than did ourselves justice.
“We still created three very good chances before we got into it. You come to a place like Barnsley with a new developing group and I am not disappointed, I am pleased that we came here, we could have won it at the end.

“We have five subs this season so we have to utilise that, it is the first proper opportunity with the window shutting to get the squad and be able to be flexible with changes and personnel.”
