Port Vale manager on strikers search – “We will get the right ones hopefully at the right price…”
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has reiterated that patience is key as the club look for quality additions to their League One squad.
Clarke was at pains to stress that the club will not rush signings as they look to bring in the right players.
It is no secret to know where we are looking – the top end of the pitch and goalkeeper. It is important that we get the right fit for those positions…
Clarke told the media: “It is no secret to know where we are looking – the top end of the pitch and goalkeeper. It is important that we get the right fit for those positions. I could bring any centre forward in to appease people, bring a couple of centre forwards in just to do that. But, for me, it has to be continuing the way we have recruited over the last 18 months. We need to continue that.
“Centre forwards are never easy to get hold of. We have two in Jamie Proctor and James Wilson. Rory Holden can play through the middle as well but we do need to strengthen that area with a couple more options.
“I know people will probably be bored of hearing it, but there will be a couple in before the end of the window. We still have 25 or 26 days and we will announce as soon as we have got them through the door.
“We have got things in the pipeline but we have had a few things in the pipeline before and they don’t happen. That is the way of the market.
“I won’t go into too many details, I will bore people, but it is not as easy as saying, ‘we will have him.’ A lot of things go into that. First of all the club we may potentially want the centre forward from, there have to be negotiations. We will get the right ones hopefully at the right price.”
